Theatre Young Harris to Present Dramatic Comedy "Steel Magnolias"

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris will present eight performances of the heartfelt and hilarious play “Steel Magnolias.” Performances are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, through Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m. All performances will take place in Dobbs Theatre located in Goolsby Center on the YHC campus. Written by Robert Harling in memory of his beloved sister, “Steel Magnolias” follows the lives of six remarkable ladies from Louisiana as they ride life’s rollercoaster and enjoy friendship that has no boundaries. The predecessor to the well-known 1989 film, this heart-warming and bittersweet tale of love, loss and the enduring bond of friendship is full of hilarious, wise-cracking banter—it’s the funniest play ever to make you cry.

Directed by Adjunct Instructor of Theatre Kendall Kiker, the performance features sophomore music education major Sarah Stogsdill of Shalimar, Fla., as M’Lynn, sophomore theatre major Melissa Tillery of Morganton, Ga., as Annelle, junior theatre major Paige Duff of Rockmart, Ga., as Ousier, sophomore theatre major Stephanie Mills of Bainbridge, Ga., as Shelby, sophomore theatre major Kaisha Marlow of Douglasville, Ga., as Truvy, and sophomore theatre major Alana Lambert of Dallas, Ga., as Clairee. Junior theatre major Stephanie Nichols of Douglasville, Ga., serves as stage manager.

Theatre Young Harris is a performing arts organization of Young Harris College. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more. Auditions are open to YHC students, faculty and staff as well as the community.

Tickets are on sale now through the YHC Box Office located in the lobby of Goolsby Center, or by calling (706) 379-4307. Box office hours are Monday-Friday, 3-5 p.m.
