Campus Gate Art Gallery to Host Student Juried Art Exhibition

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Campus Gate Art Gallery will host the annual Student Juried Art Exhibition that will feature the work of many talented YHC students. The exhibit opens Thursday, Feb. 28, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. in the Campus Gate Art Gallery. The exhibition will be on display through Thursday, March 28. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

All YHC students are eligible to submit artwork created while enrolled in classes at the College to be juried for awards. Student artists awarded Best of Show, second place, third place and honorable mention will receive cash prizes. All awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. during the opening reception.

The juror for the show is Daniel White, who currently serves as director of the Mason Scharfenstein Museum of Art (MSMA) at Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga. After working at the Birmingham Museum of Art for seven years, White became the first-ever director of the MSMA in July 2012. In this new role, White works to bring in exhibits by leading artists from around the country, curate the museum’s permanent collection and coordinate student and volunteer docents.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., White earned his B.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala., and his M.F.A. in ceramics from the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. He previously taught art at the University of Montevallo and worked as an assistant for nationally known architectural sculptor Holden McCurry.

Campus Gate Art Gallery is located at 5149 College Street on the Young Harris College campus. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information contact the Campus Gate Art Gallery at (706) 379-5256 or
