Campus Gate Art Gallery to Host Student Juried Art Exhibition
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Campus Gate Art Gallery will host a Student Juried Art Exhibition featuring artwork by YHC students. The exhibit opens Thursday, Nov. 7, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. and will be on display through Friday, Dec. 6. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
All YHC students are eligible to submit artwork created while enrolled in classes at the College to be juried for awards. Student artists awarded Best of Show, second place and third place will receive cash prizes. All awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. during the opening reception.
The juror for the show is innovative sculpture artist Allen Peterson. Known for drawing inspiration from maps and honeybees, he explores themes of system and community in his work. Individual elements often combine to form structures based on interrelationships, and performance blurs the line between labor, system and ritual.
Peterson has served as professor of sculpture at the Savannah College of Art and Design since 2006. He previously served as the resident artist and teacher for the metal arts program of Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Ala. Peterson earned his bachelor of fine arts from Birmingham-Southern College and his master’s degree in sculpture from the University of Minnesota.
Peterson’s artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States and across the globe. He has presented at several conferences and workshops including international symposiums regarding contemporary cast-iron art held in the United Kingdom and Trenton, N.J.

Campus Gate Art Gallery is located at 5149 College Street on the Young Harris College campus. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, contact (706) 379-5256 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
