Merit-Based Scholarships

Young Harris College has an outstanding merit-based scholarship program that recognizes students for academic, athletic and fine arts abilities. The information below highlights these scholarship opportunities.

Academic Scholarships 

Academic scholarships of $11,000, up to the cost of tuition, room, and board, are awarded to full-time entering freshmen who are academically qualified based upon their high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores. Students are considered for these scholarships upon completion of the Application for Admission and Academic Scholarships and submission of their official high school transcript and test scores. These scholarships are awarded for up to four years provided the student meets all renewal criteria. 

Honors Program Scholarships 

Honors Program scholarships are awarded to academically qualified students who are accepted into the Honors Program. Acceptance is based on SAT or ACT scores, high school GPA, teacher recommendations and a personal essay. Those chosen for the Honors Program will receive an additional academic scholarship. Competition will include a personal essay and submission of two letters of recommendation. Students considered for the top awards will also participate in an on-campus interview.

Transfer Scholarships

Transfer scholarships are awarded to students transferring with 30 or more hours of college-level coursework. Students with a college GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 will receive $9,000; students with a college GPA between 3.00 and 3.499 will be awarded $10,000; and students with a college GPA between 3.5 and 4.00 will receive $11,000. Students who have below a 3.00 college GPA should email the Office of Admissions regarding scholarship information. Students who have completed less than 30 hours of college-level coursework will be considered for freshman scholarships.

Art Scholarships

Art scholarships are awarded to students majoring in art and demonstrating outstanding ability in art. Competition includes written recommendations, an on-campus interview and a survey of the applicant's portfolio.

Theatre Scholarships

Theatre scholarships are awarded to students majoring in drama and demonstrating outstanding ability in the area of theatre. Competition includes written recommendations, an on-campus interview and an audition.

Music Scholarships

Music scholarships are awarded to students majoring in music and demonstrating outstanding ability in guitar, piano, organ, voice or brass, woodwind or percussion instruments.  Choral and band scholarships are available to students who are not music majors. Competition includes written recommendations, an on-campus interview and an audition.

Musical Theatre Scholarships

Musical Theatre scholarships are granted to students pursuing a degree in Theatre with a concentration in Musical Theatre. The music and theatre faculties select students to receive scholarships based on auditions and interviews.

Athletic Scholarships

Athletic scholarships are awarded in men’s and women's tennis, golf, cross country, soccer, basketball and lacrosse as well as baseball, softball and competitive cheerleading. The coaches will interview and evaluate athletic skills of applicants. Interested students should contact the appropriate coach and complete the Application for Admission.

The Goizueta Foundation Scholarships

Through the generosity of The Goizueta Foundation, Young Harris College has scholarships available especially for Hispanic/Latino students. The Goizueta Foundation scholarships are awarded to students who are of Hispanic or Latino descent and who demonstrate both academic success and financial need. The selection will be based on high school grades, SAT/ACT scores, and financial need. Recipients must maintain a 2.0 grade point average to retain the scholarship for a second year.

The Goiuzeta Foundation Scholars Fund has provided assistance to Hispanic/Latino students at Young Harris College since 2001.

External Scholarships (Georgia HOPE/Zell Miller /TEG Scholarships; Methodist Scholarships; Other External Scholarship Searches)

The HOPE Scholarship requires a student to have a 3.0 academic high school GPA. The Zell Miller Scholarship requires a student to have a 3.7 academic high school GPA and a 1200 SAT score on the verbal and math components of a single administration of the test, or an ACT score of 26. The Georgia Student Finance Commission will determine HOPE Scholarship or Zell Miller Scholarship eligibility for incoming college freshmen. To receive the Zell Miller Scholarship, the HOPE Scholarship and/or the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG), you must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours. If you attend at least half-time (6 semester hours), then you may possibly receive part of the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship. The Zell Miller Scholarship, the HOPE Scholarship, and GTEG amounts and eligibility are determined each year by the Georgia Legislature and the Georgia Student Finance Commission.
