YHC Mexico Mission Trip

Contact the Campus Minister

Welcome to the YHC Religious Life home page! Young Harris College tries to actively involve its students in every aspect of campus life, especially religious life. Whether you are interested in weekly worship and praise, residence hall Bible study, mission and service opportunities, or all of the above, YHC is the place to study, grow and serve.

While YHC is a United Methodist affiliated college, it does not limit itself to United Methodist programs. In addition to an active Wesley Fellowship, YHC also charters the Baptist Student Union and Newman Club.

One highlight of the Young Harris tradition is the weekly chapel service held in the Susan B. Harris Chapel, one of the oldest buildings on campus. The service is promoted each week by a campus organization such as a sorority, fraternity, or society.

Chapel is also used as a time to get people involved in mission opportunities. For the past several years, YHC has been very supportive of the CROP Walk Ministry. This event, held in mid-October, is a six-mile walk in nearby Hayesville, North Carolina, and generates funds and awareness for local and worldwide hunger programs.

Another mission opportunity sponsored by YHC is the annual alternative spring break mission project. Whether working with the Appalachian Service Project, traveling to Juarez, Mexico or perhaps serving in the urban northeast, each year a group of students, faculty and staff work together hand-in-hand with God's people in need in a life-changing experience.

In addition to the weekly chapel service, the Inter-Religious Council hosts a Fall Semester Spiritual Life Retreat to Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, Georgia. The purpose of this retreat is to help new and returning students to know each other outside of the classroom and residence halls. Some of the highlights are the devotions and sing-a-longs around the campfire, the Alpine Tower challenge course and the midnight trip to Huddle House.

In addition to the recognized student religious organizations, Get Together Experience is a student-envisioned, sponsored and led weekly group meeting for informal prayer, sharing and singing.

In the Spring Semester, the Inter-Religious Council sponsors a Christian concert FREE to students and the community. Recent events have hosted Caedmon's Call and Ten Shekel Shirt

So, you can see that with the weekly organization meetings and chapel services, weekend retreats, mission opportunities, and concert, you can't help but get to know people. Whether you're coming from a strong, church-related background or are simply interested in knowing more about Christian faith and fellowship, there's something for you. All you've got to do is GET INVOLVED!
