The Young Harris Police Department
Campus Police

The Young Harris College Department of Public Safety is a certified police agency recognized by the State of Georgia and staffed by licensed police officers, as well as temporary security personnel. The department has full police powers and maintains a close relationship with the local sheriff and other law enforcement agencies.

The campus is patrolled during the evening and early morning hours, and an officer is on call 24-hours a day, seven days a week. All students, faculty, staff, and guests are asked to assist in crime prevention by notifying the Department of Public Safety any suspicious activity at (706) 379-4569. If you feel your concern warrants, you should call 911 to reach the Towns County emergency dispatcher.

Safety and crime prevention is a matter of personal responsibility. We recommend that you keep your doors locked and keep aware of people and events around you.

The Federal Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 requires all colleges to publish an annual report of security policies and crime statistics. The current report was distributed to each student at the beginning of the semester in which he or she enrolled. Interested parties may obtain a copy of the report online.

In addition to safety and law enforcement services, the Department of Public safety provides the following aid:

1. Escort Service
2. Vehicle Lock Out Assistance
3. Personal Safety Training
4. Transportation in an Emergency
