Meningitis Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The State of Georgia reqiuires all post-secondary institutions to provide information about bacterial meningitis to all new and transfer students who will be living in residence halls. Therefore, all new and transfer students are given a meningitis information fact sheet during the START orientation programs. Additionally, the meningitis information sheet can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

Students who will be living in the residence halls are encouraged to get the Meningitis vaccination before moving onto campus.

The Georgia public health departments will administer the Meningitis vaccine for a nominal fee of $8.00 - $10.00 to Georgia resident students 18 years old and under. The cost is $80.00 or more if the student is 19 years or older.

Students who would like to receive the Meningitis vaccine after arrival on campus should contact the Student Health Services office or indicate this desire on the "Acknowledgement Form"

Student Health Services will be glad to help students make arrangements for the Towns County Health Department to order and administer the vaccine.
Anyone interested in this service should contact Mrs. Kniess, RN for details.

We ask all students and their parents to review the meningitis information and submit the "Acknowledgement of Receipt of Meningitis Information" form prior to beginning their first term at Young Harris.
NOTICE: parents must sign the form if the student is under 18 years old.

If you have further questions about bacterial meningitis, please feel free to contact our Director of Student Health Services, Mrs. Kniess, R.N.
