YHC Outdoor Adventures is committed to exposing students to the beauty and culture of the Appalachian Mountains that surround Young Harris College. The group is sponsoring the following events over the 2013-2014 academic year. You can make suggestions for future events at the bottom of the page.

Snow Skiing and Snow Tubing Trip
Friday, Jan. 24, 2014
Cataloochee Ski Resort, Maggie Valley, N.C.
Transportation Provided: Leave campus at 3 p.m. and return around 12 a.m.
Limit: 40 students
Cost: $30 to ski, $15 to tube
Horseback Riding at Brasstown Valley Resort
Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013
Time: Shuttle leaves campus at 1:45 p.m.
Description: Enjoy stables and horse trails at neighboring Brasstown Valley Resort.
Registration ends: Thursday, August 22nd
Limit: 15 students
Nantahala Whitewater Rafting
Monday, Sept. 2, 2013
Time: Shuttle leaves from campus at 11 a.m.
Description: There’s no better way to spend Labor Day than to travel 8 miles down class II-III rapids.
Registration ends: Sunday, August 25
Limit: 20 students
Hinton Center Waterfront Picnic
Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013
Time: 2 – 6 p.m. (dinner at 5:00 p.m.)
Shuttle leaves from campus at 2, 3, & 4 p.m. (students may also drive themselves at any time). Directions will be posted soon.
Description: We will be catering a picnic for students, faculty and staff. Although some entertainment will be provided, feel free to bring a frisbee, corn hole, and even your kayak or canoe since there is lake is access from the picnic area.
Registration ends: Friday, September 6 at 11 a.m.

Vogel State Park Day

Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013
Time: The fun starts at 8 p.m.
Description: Bring your tent, sleeping bag or hammock and camp out with all of your friends on the YHC Lawn!
Registration: No registration required—just show up!
John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival
Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013
Time: Shuttle from campus leaves at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. (students may also drive themselves at anytime).
Description: Just down the road in Brasstown, North Carolina, this annual festival features music, arts, crafts, and food. For more information, visit their website.

Time: 6-8 p.m.
Description: Kick off Family Weekend right by roasting your favorite goodies at the YHC bonfire pit.
Registration ends: No registration needed for students. Families can register for Family Weekend at www.yhc.edu/family.
Punkin Chunkin Festival

Time: Shuttle from campus leaves at 12:30 p.m. (students may also drive themselves at anytime).
Description: Enjoy great food and see pumpkins launched into the air hundreds of yard at this annual competition in Hayesville, North Carolina. For more information visit www.ncmtnchamber.com.

Trail Maintenance Service Event
Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013
Description: The Benton MacKaye Trail or BMT is a footpath nearly 300 miles in length, running from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Big Creek in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Participants will help maintain one section of the trail by removing debris, cutting limbs and shoring up trail boundaries. Bring clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, including closed-toed shoes suitable for hiking, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.
