YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College invites the community to attend several fine arts events this month. Events include the Valentine’s Day Cabaret Fundraiser, the Theatre Mainstage performance of Oklahoma! by Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Mu Phi Epsilon Member Recital and an art exhibit featuring the works of Karen Schwartz. The Valentine’s Day Cabaret Fundraiser will take place Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Suber Banquet Hall. The sixth annual performance will consist of students performing a variety of short musical and dramatic bits related to the themes of love and heartbreak. The cost of attendance is $12 per person or $20 per couple. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the Theatre Department’s student trips.

“Pay What You Can” Previews of the Oklahoma! performance will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. Regular performances will take place Thursday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Matinee performances will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. The price of admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+ or with YHC ID. All performances will be held in Dobbs Theatre in Goolsby Center. Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Oklahoma Territory, the rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the backdrop for the love story between a cowboy named Curly and the farm girl, Laurey, he wants to marry. The road to true love is anything but smooth when a coarse man named Jud Fry also sets his sights on Laurey—and there’s very little he won’t do to claim her. As the road to romance and the road to statehood converge, Curly and Laurey’s story is poised to unfold in a brand new state—Oklahoma!

The Mu Phi Epsilon Member Recital will take place Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Glenn-McGinnis Hall. This concert will showcase the talents of students involved in this co-educational, international music fraternity that recognizes both scholarship and musicianship. There is no cost to attend this performance.

This exhibit is free and open to the public. Schwartz is a practicing clinical psychologist and psychotherapist who finds that these pursuits inform her artwork in fascinating, sometimes subconscious ways, and that her creative processes offer curious insights into her work in psychotherapy.
