Young Harris College Welcomes New Members to Board of Trustees

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College recently welcomed three new members to its Board of Trustees: Mary Broadrick, of Matthews, N.C., Carol A. Chastain, ’84, of Young Harris, Ga., and David J. Lance, of Calhoun, Ga.

“We are pleased to welcome Mary, Carol and David to our Board of Trustees,” said YHC President Cathy Cox. “I am thrilled that these three individuals have joined our efforts to continue championing progress and the future success of Young Harris College.”

Mary Broadrick’s connections to YHC are deep. She is the daughter of the late George Broadrick, ’41, former YHC trustee and alumnus, who served as president of First Citizens Bank in North Carolina. Broadrick, who retired as benefits coordinator for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, is active in her community, serving as a volunteer for several local organizations.

A native of Young Harris, Ga., Carol A. Chastain serves as senior vice president and chief compliance officer for United Community Banks. Following her graduation from YHC, she earned an accounting degree from the University of North Georgia. Chastain is active in YHC’s alumni association, serving as president of the Alumni Board of Directors from 2009 to 2011.

David J. Lance serves as president and CEO of Greater Community Bank based in Rome, Ga., and Calhoun, Ga. He is the son of the late Bert Lance, a longtime member of YHC’s Board of Trustees, and the grandson of T. Jack Lance, who served as president of YHC from 1930 to 1942.

YHC’s Board of Trustees provides strategic leadership to the College by employing its members’ expertise in areas ranging from finance to philanthropy. As members of the governing board of YHC, trustees are responsible for basic oversight and governance of the institution including educational and fiscal policy, the granting of degrees, and promotion and tenure of faculty.
