YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Campus Gate Art Gallery (CGAG) at Young Harris College is pleased to present the works of Kymberly Day. The exhibit will open on Thursday, August 30, with a reception at 6 p.m. Day’s exhibit will be on display through Friday, September 28 during regular gallery hours (Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.). The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Day creates compositions using conventions of the human and animal figure in her painting and sculpture. She samples gesture and form from multiple periods, using art history as an avenue for exploring the parallels between man and animal.
“We are so incredibly excited to have Kymberly Day exhibiting her work at the Campus Gate Art Gallery,” said Jake Bennett, CGAG Director. “This particular exhibition highlights Day’s sculptures, which are hauntingly beautiful with their precise and skillfully executed humanoid and animalic forms — all of which are carved out of non-traditional materials. Please come out and support this talented artist and hear her speak on her inspirations and techniques.”
Day was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Georgia and the Carolinas. Day received her BFA in painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013 before returning to upstate South Carolina for her MFA from Clemson University in 2017 with an emphasis in sculpture. Recently, she has worked as Winter Resident at The Bascom: A Center for Visual Arts in Highlands, N.C., where she created a site-specific sculptural installation in the Loft Gallery. Day currently works in Greenville, S.C. and teaches at Lander University.
