Young Harris College Center for Appalachian Studies and Community Engagement to Host Final “Re-Visioning Justice at YHC” Event
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Center for Appalachian Studies and Community Engagement (CASCE) will host the final “Re-Visioning Justice at YHC” event on Tuesday, April 12, at 2 p.m. in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning on the YHC campus. The event is free and open to the public.
During the event, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Adam Neal will present “Is Prison the New Plantation?: ‘Orange is the New Black’ and the American Penal System.”
“His presentation examines the American prison system, questions its representations in media and culture, and asks us to consider what American capitalism gains from keeping bodies locked behind bars,” said Interim Director of CASCE Bethann Bowman, Ph.D. “Following documentaries like ‘White Privilege’ and ‘The House I Live In,’ this final Re-Visioning Justice event promises to further our ongoing discussion of what is just in American society.”
Designed to foster open communication about difficult racial and social justice issues, the “Re-Visioning Justice at YHC” series has been an exciting and meaningful opportunity for the Young Harris College community.
