Rebecca Baker, 2023, of Dacula, Georgia, was recently awarded the Beverly Barrow Woodward, 1953, Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established by Leonard and Beverly Woodward of Rome, Georgia, and it is granted annually to one YHC student to study abroad in England at Harlaxton College.
The O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium at Young Harris College will host “The Sun: Our Living Star” on the following Friday nights: Jan. 21, Jan. 28, Feb. 18, and Feb. 25.

Young Harris College is pleased to welcome Dr. Joy Hamm to the Mountain Lion staff as the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management (AVPEM). Hamm will begin her role with the Office of Admissions January 1, 2022.
Young Harris College recently welcomed former First Lady Shirley Miller, 1954, to campus to thank her for donating her family’s Kayagum (Korean zither) to the College. She met with YHC President Dr. Drew Van Horn, Dean of the Division of Fine Arts Dr. Keith DeFoor, Chair of the Department of Music and Professor of Music Jeffrey Bauman, and Instructor of Music Cynthia DeFoor.
Young Harris College recently celebrated the unveiling of the extensive Richards Comics Collection (previously known as the Andy Rowe Comics Collection) in an event organized by YHC Library Assistant Jacqueline Bruen. YHC is thrilled to have this collection of more than 9,000 comic books available for use by students, faculty, and the community.
Young Harris College Assistant Professor of Communication Dr. Joshua Guitar recently published his first book, “Dissent, Discourse, and Democracy: Whistleblowers as Sites of Political Contestation.”

Young Harris College is one of 17 institutions selected to participate in the Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP). ATP is an applied research training program during which students work with communities to address needs affecting long-term economic development. Participating students spend a semester developing projects to meet those needs, which they present at ARC’s annual ATP Symposium.
Young Harris College invites the community to attend Fall Fest Thursday, October 28 from 6 - 8 p.m. The event is open to the public and promises to be a fun-filled experience for all ages. The College’s main plaza will be full of Halloween games, trick-or-treating, activities, and photo opportunities to capture pictures of the best Halloween costumes.
