Young Harris College Choirs Present Spring Concert

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will come together for a Spring Concert on Saturday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church. Admission is $5 for adults and free for students and children 12 and under.

Under the direction of Professor of Music, Director of Choral and Vocal Activities, and Musical Theatre Program Co-Coordinator Jeff Bauman, the choirs will perform classics from artists like Praetorius, Giovanni Gabrieli, Philip J. Stopford, Franz Biebl, and Moses Hogan.

“The antiphonal pieces will have one choir on stage and one in the balcony behind the audience,” said Bauman. “It is a really neat effect that has been popular since the late renaissance, and will be a wonderful experience for our audience.”

The Chamber Choir will also be performing a modern choral work entitled “Stars” by Erik Esenvelds, which will utilize tuned glasses and handbells, producing a unique and effective musical accompaniment to the voices.

The performance will feature senior theatre major Carli LeJune, of Blairsville, Ga., junior music education major Kenneth Boykin, of Columbus, Ga., and junior music majors Ashley Brannon, of Suwanne, Ga., Jessica Holzworth, of Jasper, Ga., and Hannah Carter, of Calhoun, Ga., as student conductors. Each of these students are part of YHC’s advanced choral conducting class and will conduct a piece throughout the evening.

Soloists featured will include junior psychology major Hannah Rosselle of Lilburn, Ga., for “All that hath life and breath,” by Rene Clausen and senior music education major Emily Roberts, of Euharlee, Ga., for “Deep River,” by Norman Luboff. Staff Accompanist Anita Guss will provide accompaniment on the piano during the performance.
