Elementary Education

Elementary Education is one of two Department of Education Undergraduate Degrees offered at YHC. The Department of Education Elementary Program trains and equips students to teach elementary aged students in accordance with requirements established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

The Department of Education Elementary Education Program is built on the same liberal arts core as other programs of the College. The major has been created to provide students with opportunities to understand classroom instructional theory, best practices, and leadership skills both in the classroom and field experiences offered by the department.

What classes will you take?

  • A diverse set of classes in the liberal arts core
  • Pre-professional classes that will introduce you to the profession and teach you about various learners and learning communities
  • Major classes in Education, including:
    • Extensive Field and Clinical Experiences in local area schools
    • In depth classes in reading and language arts, mathematics, classroom assessment and working with students in a very diverse society

What can you do with a major in Elementary Education?

An Elementary degree, upon certification, allows you to teach in primary and elementary schools in Georgia. Through reciprocity, Elementary certification allows teaching in almost all other states, private and Department of Defense schools. The degree opens options to continue to pursue master’s certification and other advanced degrees.
