Young Harris College Concert Band to Perform at Spivey Hall

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College Concert Band was recently invited to perform a special concert at Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 11:15 a.m. The performance is part Spivey Hall Education, a program that strives to serve as a music education resource to the metro Atlanta community.

Formed in 1993, Spivey Hall Education has provided nearly half of the prestigious Hall’s programming in an effort to expand music education amongst teachers, administration, arts organizations and students.

Under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands Dr. Mary Land, the YHC Concert Band is a powerful ensemble comprised of woodwind, brass and percussion players that perform a wide repertory of wind band literature ranging from traditional to contemporary.

“We are very excited about receiving this special invitation,” said Dr. Land. “Even better news is that our first concert sold out, so we have added a second concert on the same date!”

Middle and high school students along with their teachers from across Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama will be in attendance for the YHC performances. Young people’s concerts at Spivey Hall feature artists who will educate and excite students through both choral and instrumental music. Combined with online study guides and curriculum connections with a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) focus, teachers can directly apply these concert experiences to classroom objectives.

“It’s so great that so many students and their teachers are going to come see the concert,” said Dr. Land. “This opportunity allows us to get out there and make connections with other teachers and showoff the talents that have been cultivated here at YHC.”
