“Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth.” This quote by British philosopher Alan Watts sets the tone for this exhibition by figurative painter Annie Heisey, who draws on art- historical symbols and themes to explore the concepts of self-awareness and self-exploration. In this body of work, she strives to investigate the motives, passions and self-deceptions that clutter the brain. She guides her subjects as they wander through the labyrinth of emotions, desires and frustrations of life, creating images that explore universal concepts through personal reflection.
