Georgia Assessments for Certification of Educators

The Program Admission Assessment is required for entrance into the Young Harris College Teacher Preparation Program. The Program Admission Assessment ensures applicants have the basic skills necessary to succeed in the program and is comprised of three parts: Reading, Mathematics and Writing. All components must be passed prior to admission into the Teacher Preparation Program. Applicants may exempt the Program Admission Assessment with one the following test scores :

  • SAT - minimum score 1,000 (Verbal/Critical Reading + Mathematics)
  • ACT - minimum score 43 (English + Mathematics)
  • GRE - minimum score 1,030 (Verbal + Quantitative)

The corresponding GACE Content Assessment will be required of all teacher candidates in the Teacher Preparation Program:

  • Early Childhood Education (P-5)
  • Middle Grades Education Language Arts (4-8)
  • Middle Grades Education Mathematics (4-8)
  • Middle Grades Education Science (4-8)
  • Middle Grades Education Social Science (4-8)
  • Music Education (P-12)
  • English Education (6-12)
  • History Education (6-12)
  • Mathematics Education (6-12)
  • Science (Broad Field) Education (6-12)

Copies of passing test scores for both the Program Admission Assessment (or exemption scores) and the GACE Content Assessment are part of the submission of documentation for certification to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
