Graduating high school seniors with a minimum 3.5 GPA and 1200 SAT or 24 ACT are invited to apply to the program via the online application. Applications are reviewed twice a year – the second week in January and the second week in April. Those accepted to the program in January will have the opportunity to compete for additional academic scholarships awarded on Honors Day. Applications received after April 5 will not be considered for the following academic year.
Students who do not enter the YHC Honors Program as first-semester freshmen but wish to join after enrolling at the College may apply through the Honors Program web application. Students wishing to enter the Honors Program should have a cumulative YHC GPA of 3.5 or better, name 3 references from YHC faculty and staff, and apply before they have completed 90 credit hours. Up to 15 current students may be accepted to join the Honors Program each academic year.
Incoming students accepted to the YHC Honors Program in January have the opportunity to compete for scholarships during the annual Honors Program’s Scholarship Day. Scholarship Day is held during the spring semester prior to honors students’ freshman year at YHC. Scholarships awarded include the most prestigious that the College offers, including the Pitts and Presidential Scholarships, which cover full tuition and varying amounts of room and board costs (depending on the scholarship awarded). Active members of the Honors Program may compete for additional financial support to aid in research, conference travel, and study abroad.
The Honors Program is a learning community that provides students with opportunities for deeper, broader, and more complex learning at YHC. As a member of the YHC Honors Program, you will have the opportunity to compete for scholarships, take classes reserved and designed exclusively for the program, and graduate with Honors Distinction in your major program of study. You will receive priority registration for courses, pursue special social and cultural activities and enjoy exciting travel opportunities. The Honors Program Student Advisory Council is an opportunity for student leadership within the program.
