Once you enroll at Young Harris College, you’ll have help transitioning from high school to college life. Students Together for Advising, Registration and Transition (START) is a student orientation program is required for all incoming students.
SUMMER ORIENTATION
During the summer orientation program, students spend two days on campus learning about life at YHC and preparing to become YHC students. During summer orientation, you get the chance to socialize with incoming students and current student leaders and discover programs, events, services and what it means to be a member of the YHC community. You also get to meet YHC faculty and staff, learn about coursework and academic expectations and finalize class registration.
Starting mid-March, once an incoming student has paid his/her tuition deposit, information about START Summer Orientation is mailed out. Approximately two weeks prior to attending orientation, students will receive an email about the event including when to arrive, where to check in, what to expect and what to bring.
- START I: June 13-14
- START II: June 17-18
- START III: June 27-28
- START IV: July 11-12
Welcome week
Welcome Week begins the Saturday evening before classes begin for the fall semester. It is an extension of START Summer Orientation that focuses on getting new students connected to the YHC community and setting the tone for the semester. During this time new students will learn ways to get involved on and off campus, participate in programming surrounding the YHC Common Reading Book and check in with various campus offices to ensure they have completed all the necessary enrollment tasks (sign the Honor Code, finalize health records, etc.).
Fall Orientation is required for all first-year students. Transfer students are encouraged, but not required, to attend.
Spring Orientation
This program has been intentionally designed to meet the needs as an incoming student to Young Harris College. Incoming students have the opportunity to meet new classmates, faculty, and staff; learn about the various student services designed to help them succeed; and meet with an academic advisor to register for classes. Starting mid-November, all students who have paid their enrolment deposit will be mailed an orientation packet with instructions on how to register for Spring Orientation on YHC Connect.
Your parents and siblings are welcome to join us on campus for the one-day Family Orientation (summer only) as well as our annual Family Weekend. If you have any questions, read the FAQs to learn more details about START.
