Alumni Board

Fellow Alumni and Friends,

What an exciting time at YHC! Not only has the landscape of our campus changed, but we now have four-year degrees—a lot of them! What an awesome opportunity for the young folks today to spend four years at YHC in this environment.

Having said that, what an opportunity WE have to keep more YHC grads in our folds through our alumni association. This is not just an appeal to recruit more members, but rather a call for help. I need your help to keep our organization strong and active so we can fuel the leadership engine that is YHC. We have the opportunity to mentor young graduates into the professionals and leaders of tomorrow. That being said, we do need members—active members that want to get involved.

We want our young alumni to get involved with the College. We want them to attend Homecoming, Alumni Weekend and local alumni events and wear their YHC pride wherever they go. Purple is a great color—it goes with everything!

I encourage you to tell other organizations about YHC. Get your church, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary or Kiwanis Clubs involved with young YHC graduates. Better yet, encourage your friends and colleagues to hire a YHC graduate. What better way to brag on the College than to hire one of our bright new alumni?

Our alumni association is only as strong as our Board of Directors’ leadership and the support of our members. I would like to thank our past president, Rufus Brown, ’60, for doing an exceptional job as president for the last two years. We have had phenomenal leaders in the past and will continue our tradition of strong leadership as we move forward. I have been a member of the YHC Board of Directors for several years, and our dynamics of leadership are top-notch. There is a tight bond between YHC administration, staff, faculty—both active and retired—and alumni that is obvious with every stroll across campus. The pride in our alumni association is unlike any that I have experienced in the many organizations with which I have been involved.

Let me conclude by saying I am humbled to be president of our alumni association. As with many of the organizations I have been involved with, leadership is not in the hands of a single person, but rather comprised of the inherent leadership of all those on the Board of Directors and the administration of the organization. YHC has a rich history of leadership, and I am proud to be part of that esteemed lineage.

I encourage you to learn more about how you can support your alma mater, get involved and stay connected.

Sincerely,

Rob Murray, '75
President, Young Harris College Alumni Association

Alumni Association Board of Directors

The Young Harris College Alumni Association is led by a 28-member board made up of alumni representing a wide range of generations. The purpose of the Young Harris College Alumni Association is to serve as an advisory board to the President of the College and the Office of Alumni Services; to unite the Alumni, former students, and friends of the Young Harris College for the purpose of renewing friendships, creating goodwill, enhancing fellowship and camaraderie in cooperation with the Office of Alumni Services in its efforts of keeping in contact with Alumni and former students, and disseminating information to them about the College; to foster and perpetuate Alumni enthusiasm for the College and fellow Alumni; and to serve as the official alumni organization of YHC.

The Alumni Board works with the Office of Alumni Services to organize a variety of events for alumni, friends and prospective students and their families to highlight Young Harris College's achievements and reminisce with old classmates and professors. These events are friend-raisers, not fund-raisers.

If you have ideas for alumni events or would like to help plan or host an event, call (706) 379-5334 or email the Office of Alumni Services.
