YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Young Harris College invites the community to attend fine arts events in August and September. All events will take place on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College St., Young Harris, Georgia 30582. Enjoy the following events:

– On Monday, Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m., YHC will host the Friends of the Arts (FOTA) Season Preview in the Fine Arts Annex. This free event will provide a look at upcoming performances at the College.

– On Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m., the Campus Gate Art Gallery will host an opening reception for a new exhibit called “Coevolution” by Allen Peterson. The exhibit will be on display through Friday, Sept. 27. Both the reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

Peterson’s paintings and sculptural work have appeared extensively in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and in Mexico, France and the U.K. He has also presented his performance art at many sculpture parks, universities and art conferences. A beekeeper for several years, Peterson’s work involving bees has been curated into group exhibitions in art venues such as the Hambidge Center and into science-related art exhibitions at Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum of Natural History and Emory University.

– On Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m., the Department of Theatre will present “Goloshes of Fortune” in Glenn-McGinnis Hall. This children’s play is free and open to the public due to the generous Fred Register Endowment for Children’s Theatre.

This play is a tale of mysterious, magical rain boots that will grant the greatest wish of the person wearing them. Two meddlesome fairies wonder whether human beings can really know what brings happiness, so they slip the magical goloshes onto the feet of four unsuspecting children who think they know what they want.
