YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — This week, current Young Harris College Chaplain Reverend Dr. Adam Daniels met with former Chaplain Reverend Fred Whitley, Class of 1966, for lunch in the Grace Rollins Dining Hall. The two discussed YHC Religious Life, what it has looked like over the years, and plans for this school year.
Daniels is in his third week as Dean of the Chapel at YHC, and he has been engaging in intentional conversation with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to find out what everyone would like to see this year in YHC Religious Life. He knew that it would be incredibly beneficial to him and the College community for him to meet with Whitley, who served at YHC from 1980-2008.
At lunch, Daniels listened to many great stories of students from over the years, service opportunity ideas, community building activities, and more, and he took in all the helpful wisdom and experience Whitley brought to their conversation. The two also spent time in the Susan B. Harris Chapel, where they discussed the history of the building and how Chapel Worship has run through the years. Daniels enjoyed hearing how the former chaplain stayed faithful and motivated throughout his many years at the College, as well as what his secrets were to staying passionate in his role.
“It was a joy and an honor to spend time with Rev. Whitley on campus this week and soak up all the wisdom and passion he has for ministry,” said Daniels. “What a blessing to have such exemplars who have gone before you and are willing to show you the way.” He is excited to bring new and seasoned traditions together in his first year as chaplain, creating the most vibrant and welcoming atmosphere possible for our Mountain Lions.
Daniels earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Tennessee Tech University, a Master of Divinity from Lipscomb University, and a Doctor of Ministry in Youth Virtue Formation from Abilene Christian University.
