YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Young Harris College invites the community to attend upcoming Fine Arts events on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College Street, Young Harris, Georgia 30582.

  • On Friday, January 13 at 7 p.m. the YHC Concert Band Concert will be held in Glenn~McGinnis Hall. The Concert Band is the premier symphonic instrumental ensemble at YHC, comprised of the College’s woodwind, brass, and percussion players. Students from 10 regional high schools will be performing under the direction of guest conductor Dr. John Lynch, Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Admission is free and open to the public.
  • On Saturday, January 14 from 8 a.m. – noon, Fine Arts Scholarship Auditions will be held in Glenn~McGinnis Hall. Information regarding Fine Arts Scholarships in Art, Music, Musical Theatre, Theatre Performance, and Theatrical Design and Production can be found on the YHC website.
  • On Saturday, January 14 at 6:30 p.m., the YHC Instrumental Chamber Music Recital will be held in Glenn~McGinnis Hall. This performance will feature the student chamber music ensembles the Brasstown 5 (brass quintet) and the YHC Flute Ensemble, which is led by Adjunct Instructor of Flute and Artist Affiliate Cheryl Star. Mrs. Star will also perform solo flute repertoire with piano accompaniment provided by Anita Guss. Admission is free and open to the public.
  • On Sunday, January 15 at 3 p.m., YHC’s High School Honor Band Clinic Concert will be held in Glenn~McGinnis Hall. The Young Harris College High School Honor Band Clinic Concert will feature serious, director-nominated high school woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists in grades 10-12. Students from 10 regional high schools will be performing under the direction of guest conductor Dr. John Lynch, Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Admission is free and open to the public.
  • On Thursday, January 26 at 6 p.m., the Opening Reception for the art exhibit, “P L A C E reunion,” by YHC’s Campus Gate Art Gallery Director Becky Miller, will be held in the Campus Gate Art Gallery. The exhibit will be on display weekdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Thursday, February 23. Miller’s work features artifacts made with dirt, soil, clay, crop residue, and found objects. The artist’s mission is to preserve and perpetuate the story undergirded by the idea that the earth is your historian. Admission is free and open to the public.
