YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — On Monday, May 13, Young Harris College hosted the 15th annual Clay Dotson Open golf tournament at Brasstown Valley Resort to raise money for student scholarships. Approximately 150 golfers played in the tournament, which raised more than $95,000.
“On behalf of the students, faculty and staff of Young Harris College, thank you to everyone who sponsored, participated in and supported the 2019 Clay Dotson Open,” said Executive Director of Development Mark Dotson, ’88. “Because of your generosity, deserving students will receive scholarships and the opportunity to pursue an education at YHC.”
The Clay Dotson Open included two flights in the morning and two flights in the afternoon. The following teams walked away with first-place honors across the four flights: Ricky Tanner, Doug Adams, Robert Dumas and Trent Rich; John Luc, Tony Luc, Chance Luc and Rae Luc; Wade Patterson, Debra Patterson, ’76, Brian Herzog and Michael Willard; and Mark O’Connor, ’81, Jason Rhinehardt, Kirk Hatherly and Frank Leatherwood.
Teams with three or more YHC alumni qualified for the Tom Forkner, Sr. Alumni Challenge. The winning team included David Gurley, ’69, Charlie Butler, ’69, Jerry Waller, ’69, and Joe Lashley.
Winners of the Longest Drive competition included Aaron Ackermon and Jim “Coach” Roper. Winners of the Closest to the Pin competition included Mark Stancil and Adam Houser.
