Young Harris College to Host Annual Spring Alumni Weekend

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College alumni will return to the Enchanted Valley this month for Alumni Weekend, Friday-Sunday, April 22-24. Following the theme “Peace, Love, YHC,” the weekend provides alumni with the opportunity to reminisce with fellow classmates, explore campus, interact with students, faculty and staff, and learn about the amazing things currently taking place at YHC.

“I love seeing YHC friends reunite during Alumni Weekend,” said Director of Alumni Services Dana Ensley, ’97. “Even if it’s been 50 years without seeing each other, after they’re brought together again, it’s as if they haven’t spent a day apart.”

Alumni Weekend 2016 will feature an array of exciting activities beginning Friday. Following lunch in Grace Rollins Dining Hall, enjoy the blooming tulips, ice cream sundaes and each other’s company during the 130th Anniversary Celebration of YHC on the plaza.

On Friday afternoon, the Class of 1966 will celebrate their 50th reunion in the Hatcher Dining Room of the Rollins Campus Center. During the Half Century Club Dinner later that evening, YHC will honor members of the Class of 1966 as well as all other alumni who have celebrated this “golden” reunion. The YHC Alumni Association will also present the prestigious Annual Alumni Awards following dinner.

This year’s award recipients include Ronnie Milsap, ’64, Brandon Hood, ’05, Rufus Brown, ’60, Margaret Oswald and the Bone family.

Bright and early on Saturday, lace up your running shoes for the Alumni Weekend 5K Trail Run and Walk beginning at Berry Tennis Center. The day’s activities continue in the Campus Gate Art Gallery during morning coffee with President Cathy Cox and retired and emeriti faculty and staff followed by a College Update with news from President Cox and Alumni Association President Candler Ginn, ’77.

Mix and mingle with generations of YHC alumni and friends as well as emeriti, retired, and current faculty and staff during the Alumni Weekend Luncheon and enjoy music and children’s activities as well a visit with current students promoting various clubs and organizations during the annual Alumni GreenFest on the plaza and lawn.

“I love Alumni Weekend because it’s so awesome to see everyone come together,” said senior theatre major and Student Alumni Ambassador Stephanie Mills of Bainbridge, Ga. “Talking to our alumni and finding out what they love about YHC is a wonderful experience. It really is like one big family here.”

On Saturday afternoon, attend a Seat-Naming Celebration at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex during which complimentary refreshments will be provided while a meet-and-greet with former YHC tennis coaches and players takes place.

Alumni will also have the opportunity to enjoy student-produced cultural events on campus throughout the weekend including the Senior Thesis Exhibition on display in the Campus Gate Art Gallery and Theatre Young Harris’ performance of Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap.”

Alumni, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to join the discussion, follow live events, and connect on Facebook at facebook.com/YoungHarrisCollege, Twitter @YH_College, Instagram @YoungHarrisCollege and Snapchat @artemas_snaps, using the hashtag #YHCAW16.
