YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College will host award-winning scientist, author, educator and film producer Sean B. Carroll to present his book, “The Serengeti Rules,” on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. in Glenn-McGinnis Hall on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College Street, Young Harris, Ga. 30582. The event is open to the public and free to attend. In preparation for the presentation, the YHC Academic Success Center will show the film version of “The Serengeti Rules” on the Campus Green on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

In “The Serengeti Rules,” Carroll tells the stories of the pioneering scientists who sought the answers to simple yet profoundly important questions and shows how their discoveries matter for the health of people and the health of the planet.

“The Serengeti Rules” was selected by YHC’s Academic Success Center for this year’s Common Reading Program. The program was designed to provide all students in the College’s First Year Foundations course with a common intellectual experience and to stimulate discussion and critical thinking.

In addition to the Common Reading Program, First Year Foundations includes themed classes on a variety of topics like “Chocolate History,” “The Art and Science of Questioning,” “Does Every Problem Have a Solution?” “Econ and English: They Both Start with E” and “Global Scientific Challenges.” Underlying each themed class is a common core of preparation and the opportunity for students to adjust to college life and studies.
