Young Harris College Presents Fine Arts Events for January
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Young Harris College invites the community to attend fine arts events in January. All events will take place on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College St., Young Harris, Georgia 30582. Enjoy the following events:
-On Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m., Patrick Young, ’15, will perform an Alumnus Recital in the Susan B. Harris Chapel. Young is currently a D.M.A. (ABD) teaching assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder. He serves as principal tubist in Opera Colorado, the Arapahoe Philharmonic and the Longmont Symphony, and holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Young Harris College, and a Master of Music in Tuba Performance from the University of Georgia. This concert is free and open to the public.
-On Friday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m., the YHC Concert Band will perform “The Best of 2019” in Glenn-McGinnis Hall. This performance features highlights of the band’s fall concerts and will take place during YHC’s annual High School Honor Band event. This concert is free and open to the public.
-On Saturday, Jan. 18 at 12:30 p.m., Tara Winds will join the YHC Brass Ensemble in Glenn-McGinnis Hall. Tara Winds is an internationally known community concert band based in Atlanta. The band is composed of outstanding instrumentalists from a wide variety of professions, including music education, the business and corporate sector, and the legal and medical fields. The band is under the direction of Dr. Andrea Strauss, who is serving as the guest clinician for YHC’s High School Honor Band event. This concert is free and open to the public.
-On Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m., the high school students involved in YHC’s High School Honor Band Clinic will perform a concert in Glenn-McGinnis Hall. This performance is a culmination of what the high school students learned during the two-day clinic under the instruction of guest clinician, Dr. Andrea Strauss. The concert is free and open to the public.
-On Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m., the Campus Gate Art Gallery will host an opening reception for guest artist Jerry Siegel. Following the opening, Siegel’s exhibit will be on display Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Friday, Feb. 28. Both the reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public. “REVEAL is about transformation,” said Siegel. “We live in a world of costumes—presenting ourselves how we want others to perceive us.” This exhibit is a look into the ways the illusion is created by drag artists.
