YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — The Institute for Continuous Learning has donated to the Young Harris College Steinway Initiative to support the college’s effort to provide the best learning environment for YHC music students.

Inspired by a recent concert event at the campus, involving two brand new Steinway grand pianos, the ICL board of directors decided they wanted to support the musical efforts at YHC.

“As in the past, the Institute for Continuing Learning is happy to make this donation to YHC as an initiative that helps foster student growth and education,” said Jill Long, board president for the ICL. “This particular Steinway initiative will give lasting benefits to both students at YHC and the community at large as we all enjoy the performances at the College.”

YHC’s Steinway Initiative is an effort to be an All-Steinway School, meaning 90% or more of the Department of Music’s acoustic pianos must be Steinway instruments. To date, YHC has purchased – through the gifts of several donors – two seven-foot grand pianos and two upright pianos for the initiative. The next goal is to purchase a nine-foot concert grand for Glenn~McGinnis Hall.

“ICL’s very generous donation to the College’s All-Steinway School initiative is most appreciated and helps position the Department of Music and the College for success for generations to come,” said YHC’s Executive Director for Accreditation, Assessment, and Friends of the Arts Keith DeFoor. “The new Steinway pianos are tremendous additions to the Department of Music and the College. Students, faculty, and staff will benefit from these magnificent instruments.”

Being an All-Steinway School is a sign of quality that will increase the value proposition for students and, furthermore, enhance the cultural offerings for the community.

The ICL has long partnered with YHC since its inception in 1991. Affiliated with more than 400 Lifelong Learning Institutes across the United States and Canada, the ICL offers courses during four semesters throughout the year – winter, spring, summer, and fall.
