Lance Law Firm P.C. and Young Harris College Host Special Event for Local Students

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – On Nov. 15, Lance Law Firm P.C. co-hosted a special event with Young Harris College at United Community Banks’ Brackett Community Room in Blairsville, Ga. With more than 80 people in attendance, the evening celebrated YHC students who are from the local community. Students had the opportunity to network with local business leaders to create professional contacts.

Over 15 businesses were represented at the event where YHC President Cathy Cox and Union County High School Principal John Hill, ‘01, were the keynote speakers of the evening. Union County Commissioner Lamar Paris and YHC Trustee and Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for United Community Banks Carol Chastain, ’84, also attended.

“Union County is no longer just a tourist destination,” said the evening’s host attorney Jack Lance, who is also an alumnus of the College. “People are moving here to live and as they begin to create businesses, they should be aware of the hidden gem we have in YHC.”

The event also served to create awareness about YHC’s Local Scholarship Fund, a campaign that benefits scholarships for students from Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, Rabun, Towns, and Union counties in Georgia and Cherokee and Clay counties in North Carolina.

“We not only want our local youth to go to school at YHC, we have high hopes that they will choose to stay in the area after they have graduated,” said Lance. “As business leaders, we should all do what we can to support these students in their efforts to receive a top-notch education.”

Guests also had the opportunity to visit a career services table and speak with YHC Coordinator of Career Planning and Internships Janelle Morris, ’11, regarding internship needs to best match students looking for a particular experience.

“We have a great need for student internships within our local community,” said Morris. “Many students receive an opportunity to intern out-of-state, but our hope is to create relationships with businesses nearby so we can keep our students here to work for our own community. This type of event helps us achieve that purpose.”
