Theatre Young Harris to Present “Shakespeare’s R & J”

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Theatre Young Harris will present Joe Calarco’s “Shakespeare’s R & J” Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 26-27, at 7 p.m. in Dobbs Theatre located in the Goolsby Center on the Young Harris College campus. This play is free and open to the public.

When four young prep school students begin taking turns reading William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” aloud, the story itself becomes more and more thrilling. The rigidity of their own lives begins to parallel the lives of the characters in the play. This show is recommended for mature audiences due to strong languages and adult themes

This production is directed by senior theatre major Andrew Andersen, of Atlanta, Ga., and features senior theatre major Nick Oberheu, of Loganville, Ga., senior music major Sarah Stogsdill, of Shalimar, Fla., and junior English major Alejandro Lemus-Gomez, of Young Harris, Ga.

“I’m excited to see how people take the twist on this classic show,” said Andersen. “It has been a ride putting this show together and I’m hoping everyone who sees the show walks out with a new perspective on it.”

“Shakespeare’s R & J” is part of Theatre Young Harris’ Studio Series which features productions showcasing student direction and provides an invaluable educational experience that focuses on the fundamentals of the production process.
