Young Harris College Welcomes Kathy Pachman to Student Development

The Student Development Office has a new face: please welcome Kathy Pachman, Assistant to the Vice President of Student Development.

Kathy attended Oxford College for her associate’s degree and Emory University for her bachelor’s degree in history. After college, marriage to a fighter pilot in the Air Force meant frequent cross-country moves, which allowed her to dive into a variety of professions, including retail management, banking, real estate, and travel. A highlight was managing the Midwestern State University Bookstore in Wichita Falls, Texas. Such diverse experiences have prepared her well for her new role in the Student Development Office.

“I have a special place in my heart for YHC because of my son’s experience as a graduate and I look forward to working with Dr. Pruett and the Student Development Team to support the YHC community,” said Kathy.

“We are excited to welcome Kathy to the Student Development team,” said Dr. Karen Pruett, Vice President of Student Development. “Kathy’s extensive business and customer service experience and her personal experiences as the parent of a recent YHC graduate will be invaluable to her work with our students and their families.”

When her husband transitioned from active duty to the reserves, the family settled in Roswell, Georgia, where they raised their now-adult children. During that time, she built a 12-year career in the travel industry, where she eventually rose to the position of Vice President of Innovation at Celebrated Experiences. Working in travel allowed her to combine a love of history with an interest in learning about other cultures. Other interests include reading historical fiction and nonfiction and studying foreign languages. Kathy lives in Young Harris with Greg, her husband of 33 years. She is excited to join the Young Harris College community! Please welcome her if you happen to see her.
