YHC’s Hamilton Lecture to Feature Dr. Amy-Jill Levine

The annual Hamilton Lecture at Young Harris College will feature Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. Her presentation, which is titled "Of Pearls and Prodigals: Hearing Jesus' Parables in His World and Ours," will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in the Rollins Campus Center’s Hatcher Dining Room. The campus is located at 1 College St., Young Harris, Georgia. This event is part of YHC’s academic lecture series and is free and open to the public.

YHC’s Dr. Claudie Massicotte Earns Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award

Young Harris College announced Dr. Claudie Massicotte as the recipient of the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award at its 2019 Academic Convocation. The $1,000 award is sponsored by Vulcan Materials Company. It was established in 1991 to honor outstanding professors on select member campuses of the Georgia Independent College Association.

Georgia Fraternal Order of Police Donates Ballistic Vests to the Young Harris College Police Department

The Georgia Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) recently donated four ballistic vests to the Young Harris College Police Department. These vests, provided through the Georgia FOP's "Protect the Protectors Program," were presented to YHC Chief of Police Ken Henderson by John Gardner and Kevin Shrodes. Gardner and Shrodes are members of the ballistic vest committee for the Georgia FOP. The vests will be used by the YHC Police Department’s officers.

Comic Book Collection at YHC Grows by More Than 1,000

Dan Tancredi of Brooklyn, New York, recently donated more than 1,000 comic books to the Andy Rowe Comics Collection at YHC.

Upcoming Planetarium Events at Young Harris College

Young Harris College’s O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium invites the community to upcoming planetarium shows. Each planetarium show costs $5 per adult, $3 per child and is free for YHC students, faculty and staff. To purchase tickets in advance, visit yhc.edu/planetarium.

Young Harris College Welcomes New Director of Admissions

On Sept. 15, 2019, Young Harris College will welcome Emily Carella to serve as the director of admissions. In this role, Carella will build and develop the admissions team and implement new strategies to grow enrollment.

YHC Receives Strong Rankings from James magazine and LendEDU

Young Harris College is among Georgia’s top-ranked colleges and universities, according to James magazine. Additionally, LendEDU recently recognized YHC for having one of the lowest average student loan debt per borrower figures—not only in Georgia, but in the entire country.

Hiawassee’s Ethel Winters Honors Late Husband with Gift to YHC

Young Harris College recently received a gift from long-time donor Ethel Winters of Hiawassee, Georgia as a contribution to the Edward W. Winters Scholarship, which was established in honor of her late husband to benefit the College’s Local Scholarship Campaign. Since 1998, Winters has given $1,000 annually to support local students pursuing an education at YHC.

Jennifer Rushton Named Young Harris College Director of Athletics

Young Harris College President Dr. Drew L. Van Horn recently announced that Jennifer Rushton will serve as director of athletics for the Mountain Lions beginning July 1.

YHC Thanks Community for Supporting the 2019 Clay Dotson Open

On Monday, May 13, Young Harris College hosted the 15th annual Clay Dotson Open golf tournament at Brasstown Valley Resort to raise money for student scholarships. Approximately 150 golfers played in the tournament, which raised more than $95,000.

Young Harris College Confers 195 Degrees During Commencement Ceremony

Young Harris College Thanks Community for Supporting The Big Dance

On Friday, April 26, Young Harris College hosted The Big Dance to raise scholarship funds for more than 200 students from eight surrounding counties: Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, Rabun, Towns and Union counties in Georgia, and Cherokee and Clay counties in North Carolina. Approximately 240 community members attended the event, which raised more than $10,000 for the Local Scholarship Campaign.

Young Harris College’s Commencement Weekend Will Celebrate Graduates

Young Harris College will finish its 2018-2019 academic year with three events celebrating its graduating seniors: a picnic and Vespers Service at Brasstown Bald, a Baccalaureate Service and a Commencement Ceremony.
